What to do with your Feelings

“One of 3 things you can do with feelings: 1.) Ignore them. 2.) Psychologize youself against them/turn them off, or 3). Encourage other emotions that will speak louder and overcome the messages of former gauges.” –from When Men Think Private Thoughts

Which of these 3 options do you usually default to? Ignoring feelings just leads to stuffing them and becoming an inauthentic person with lots of layers/masks. Talking yourself out of them seems like such a waste of energy since they are clearly there and ready to be expressed. But that third option yielded to the Holy Spirit: if maturely going to God for the correct expression of emotions–feeling them deeply, but not going destructive to self or others–I think that is most integrous and emotionally healthy option for the Christian.
